The increasing demand for renewable energy has expedited the global deployment of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of solar panels is crucial for optimising energy generation, minimising operational costs, and enhancing system reliability. Conventional monitoring methods frequently lack real-time visibility and predictive functionalities, complicating defect detection and performance enhancement. The Internet of Things (IoT) has developed into a formidable technology for facilitating intelligent solar panel monitoring via interconnected sensors, wireless communication, cloud computing, and data analytics. IoT-based monitoring systems deliver real-time insights into critical performance metrics, including voltage, current, power output, temperature, irradiance, and environmental factors. This chapter examines the design, technologies, applications, difficulties, and future prospects of IoT-based solar panel performance monitoring systems, highlighting its significance in improving renewable energy management and sustainable power generation.
