Autonomous Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents are becoming a crucial technology for evolving smart manufacturing systems into adaptable, intelligent, and human-focused industrial settings. In contrast to traditional AI models that mostly execute predetermined analytical functions, autonomous agents possess the ability to sense industrial environments, analyse diverse data, make informed decisions based on context, carry out actions, and perpetually adjust to evolving production needs. In Industry 5.0, these competencies facilitate enhanced cooperation among humans, robots, machinery, and advanced software systems. This section explores the utilisation of autonomous AI agents in predictive maintenance, quality assurance, production scheduling, process enhancement, human-robot cooperation, and industrial energy oversight. It further examines multi-agent frameworks, digital replicas, cybersecurity, interpretability, safety, confidentiality, and sustainable production. Evaluation methodologies and principal implementation obstacles are outlined to facilitate dependable deployment in industrial settings. The section highlights that self-sufficient AI need to enhance human proficiency while functioning under explicitly established safety, governance, and operational parameters.
