The amalgamation of Edge Computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) has surfaced as a significant framework for facilitating real-time data analysis in decentralised settings. Traditional cloud-based IoT frameworks transfer substantial amounts of sensor data to centralised servers for processing, potentially leading to network delays, bandwidth usage, privacy issues, and reliance on uninterrupted connectivity. Edge computing mitigates these constraints by relocating compute, storage, and analytics nearer to IoT devices and data origins. This chapter delineates the essential principles of edge computing and its integration with IoT, architectural frameworks, communication technologies, data-processing methodologies, edge analytics, incorporation of artificial intelligence, security and privacy protocols, as well as practical implementations. The section additionally explores obstacles, performance indicators, nascent technologies, and prospective research avenues for creating intelligent, scalable, secure, and low-latency IoT analytics frameworks.
